The first Organizational meeting of Tallahassee Chapter 758 was held in May of 2004. On June 25, 2004 the Chapter was officially chartered by the National Commander, Military Order of the Purple Heart of the United States of America, Inc. as Tallahassee Chapter 758 with 41 Charter Members. Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet passed a Resolution on June 24, 2004 officially designating August 7 as PURPLE HEART DAY. On August 7, 2004 the first Purple Heart Memorial Monument in the State of Florida was dedicated in the Capital Courtyard on the South side between the Old and New Capital buildings and adjacent to the Senate Office building. This Monument pays tribute to All members of the Military from the Revolutionary War to Iraqi Freedom who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal. The keynote speaker was LT. Governor Toni Jennings. The Charter for Tallahassee Chapter 758 was formally presented at the Dedication Ceremony. |
