Chapter 758 of The Military
Order of the Purple Heart Commander Leon Roy was given the above vintage 1976
Harley-Davidson Shovelhead bike for the Florida Department in February 2009. The
bike was presented to Commander Roy at “The Biker Fusion Party” during the 2009
Bike Week in Daytona Beach, FL. Biker Fusion is a private party held to raise
money for Soldiers’ Angels. The party was one of several fundraising events held
to benefit Soldiers’ Angels projects for wounded Soldiers. The Biker Fusion
Party was coordinated by R & R Promotions Owner Carrie Repp, of Ft. Lauderdale,
who worked with Commander Bill Everett of Chapter 778 (Pensacola, FL) to make
the presentation possible.
This vintage 1976 Harley-Davidson bike was first purchased by an Army Medic, who
sold the bike when he was deployed in support of the War on Terror. The bike was
then purchased by the donor for his son and named “Uncle Sam”. The name has
stuck. The bike was later donated to Billy Lane, of Chopper’s Inc., who
refurbished it and in turn donated the bike to Soldiers’ Angels with the
stipulation that it be presented to a Vietnam Combat Wounded Veteran from the
State of Florida.
