H. Bruce
McIver
Candidate
Region
IV Commander

I am honored to have this opportunity to
announce my candidacy for the position of REGION IV Commander.
If elected I am determined and dedicated to fill this vacant position honorably
and dutifully.
As a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart,
I had the privilege of organizing the first Chapter of the MOPH in Florida’s
capital city of Tallahassee. Having served as the first Commander and
Adjutant of Chapter 758, I was re-elected for
the 2006-07 term. It’s been an honor to also serve the Department of
Florida as Legislative Affairs Officer and Trustee
as well as other duties as tasked. I assure you that I will give my full and
devoted attention to the position of Region IV Commander if
I am elected.
I was born in North Wilkesboro, NC on August 17, 1949 and
grew up in Cheraw, SC not far from where my family settled
when they came to the United States from Scotland in 1756. Having resided in
Florida since 1960, I entered the United States Navy after
graduation from High School in 1967 and a brief stint at Florida State
University.
Following Boot Camp at the Naval Training Center (NTC) in
San Diego, CA I graduated from Basic Electronics School and
Radioman "A" School. When Radioman School was completed I
volunteered for riverboat duty in the Republic of Vietnam.
I then began extensive training at the Naval Inshore Operations
Training Center (NIOTC) at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard
in Vallejo, CA. This included 11 weeks of Riverine Assault/Riverine
Warfare indoctrination as well as small arms and
heavy weapons training. The counterinsurgency phase included
Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) at Whidbey
Island, WA.
After arriving in the Republic of Vietnam in early March of
1969 I was assigned to River Assault Squadron 13. While
with this unit I served as Radioman/50 caliber machine gunner on an
Armored Troop Carrier. In July I was transferred to the
Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) to operate with the
Naval Advisory Group. My first assignment as a combat Advisor
was at Moc Hoa (Parrot’s Beak) in III Corps. Then I was moved to River
Assault Interdiction Division (RAID) 72 in the U Minh Forest region
of IV Corps Tactical Zone as an Advisor with the Vietnamese Marine
Corps and Navy.
After Vietnam I chose to resume my college education at Florida State
University in Tallahassee. In 1974 I founded a successful real
estate consulting company primarily representing private land owners with
agencies of the State of Florida. I continued in this line
of business for the next 20 years.
I am the proud father of Leah McIver Atkin,
Michael Sean McIver and I currently have three grandchildren.
It is imperative that we build on our past successes and work together for the
benefit of our Patriots in the Military Order Of the Purple Heart
and Veteran’s everywhere. I will be honored to have your
support in electing me as your Region IV Commander. If
elected I will do my best to promote and expand the cause of the
Military Order of the Purple Heart throughout our region.
Thank you for your consideration.
I am Yours In Patriotism,
H. Bruce McIver, Commander
